IRISS 2018: 12th Inter-Research-Institute Student Seminar in
Computer Science,
February 16th, 2018. (Venue: VNIT, Nagpur)
|
In continuation with IRISS conferences held earlier (2002: IISc, 2003: IIT Delhi, 2004: IIT Bombay, 2005: IIT Kanpur, 2006: IIT Madras, 2007: IIIT Hyderabad, 2009: IIT Guwahati, 2014: IIT Delhi, 2015: BITS Goa, 2016: Trivandrum, 2017: Kolkata) ACM India announces IRISS 2018 that will be held on February 16, 2018 in Nagpur, India.
IRISS invites CS- research scholars in India to showcase their (published/accepted, attach proof of acceptance) work to a conclave of researchers and potential employers. The event hosts oral as well as poster presentations. The submissions will go through a program committee and selected papers will be invited for oral/poster presentation. Partial funding will be provided to the selected submissions.
As the event is co-located with the ACM India Annual Event 2018 where-in Turing Award winners are invited to deliver talks on their work, participants of IRISS get a unique opportunity to listen to them and interact with them.

Title of Keynote Talk:
Blending Mechanism Design with Machine Learning for Solving Emerging Problems in Artificial Intelligence
Abstract of Keynote Talk:
Mechanism design (MD) provides a game theoretic framework to explore if a given social choice function may be
implemented as an equilibrium outcome of an induced game. In a multi-agent setting, machine learning (ML)
seeks to learn the preferences or types of the agents through any available data or through intelligent exploration.
ML and MD are well investigated as individual problems, however, interesting research questions
arise when both of them are required for solving a problem. Many emerging problems in AI involve strategic agents holding private information, for example, Internet advertising auctions, Crowdsourcing, smart grids, smart contracts with blockchains, and online educational platforms. To find a satisfactory solution to these problems, MD and ML are both required. In this talk, we examine certain technically challenging issues that arise when MD and ML have to be blended together. In particular, we focus on our current research into design of multiarmed bandit mechanisms where online learning and mechanism design blend together yielding a powerful new modeling option for many important problems in AI.
Bio-sketch of Prof. Y. Narahari:
Y. Narahari is currently a Professor at the Department of Computer Science
and Automation, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. The focus
of his research in the last decade has been to explore problems at the
interface of computer science and game theory. He has recently authored a
textbook entitled "Game Theory and Mechanism Design" brought out by the
IISc Press and the World Scientific Publishing Company. He is a Fellow of
the IEEE and a J.C. Bose Fellow of the Department of Science and
Technology, Government of India. He is a Fellow of INSA, IASc, NASI, and INAE.
