Project 1 (DST Sponsored)

Pedosedimentary reconstruction from alluvial  fan deposits of the Kangra Intermontane Basin, NW Himalayas (in progress)

The proposed research program is aimed at studying the alluvial fan deposits of the Kangra Valley using a pedosedimentary approach. The area witnessed devastating seismic activity (>8 intensity) along Main Boundary Thrust in 1905. The pedosedimentary complexes developed during Quaternary Period are being probed  to provide information in terms of the changing interaction, balance, and the predominance of pedogenic, sedimentary and erosional processes over time. Focus of the proposed study is to infer the temporal climatic fluctuations and the episodic tectonic activity that controlled the pedosedimentary evolution of the Kangra intermontane basin, NW Himalayas.

Project 2 (DST Sponsored)

INTERFLUVE STRATIGRAPHY, SEDIMENTOLOGY AND GEOCHEMISTRY OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN GANGA PLAINS (in progress)

The project is under progress to evaluate the stratigraphic associations, source area, and the post-depositional processes in the Gangetic Plains. Which constitutes one of the major physiographic units of India, bordering the tectonically active Himalayas in the north and the Precambrian rocks in the south. From studies on surficial sediments and soils it has been established that climatic fluctuations and the tectonic activity controlled sedimentation and pedogenesis in the plains.  The pedosedimentary sequences developed during the Quaternary Period exposed along the vertical cliffs along the banks of the major rivers and the shallow subsurface cores from the plains are under probe for sedimentological, micromorphological and geochemical characterization. This will be utilized to  infer the interrelations, balances and the dominance between the sedimentary, pedogenic and the erosional processes over time.
