Currently doing research on
Social Construction of Heart Diseases in India. It explores through a
variety of sources of data both the medical and the lay discourse on
heart diseases (life histories of patients, observation of clinical
encounters, lay epidemiology that follows discussion/social analysis of
a particular episode of illness, media coverage on the issue, research
dialogue within the medical community through relevant articles in
medical journals). Also looking at traditional healing practices and the
role of traditional healers in treating heart diseases including high
blood pressure and diabetes. The research is supported by the University
of Delhi. |

Working on a research
project on Television and Childhood in India (supported by the
Commission on the Anthropology of Youth, children and childhood),
findings of some part of the work were presented in the conference on
‘Ethnography of Childhoods’, National University of Singapore, July
2006. The work is now under publication.

Research on the problematic
of studying ‘tribal villages’ in villages in Southern Orissa, findings
of which have been presented in an international conference and are
under publication. The ASSISH program of the U.G.C supported the
fieldwork |

Research on cultural
syncretism among the indigenous and other communities in Orissa, India,
part of the work is now under publication. A documentary film on
‘Sivaratri Jatra’ to explore aspects of syncretism is being worked out.
