Senior Sociologist in the project on ‘Rural-Urban Migration: Effects on obesity and Diabetes’, supported by the Wellcom Trust and Centre for Chronic Disease Control, Delhi, June –November 2004

Senior Sociologist on the project MYTRI (Mobilizing Youth Against Tobacco Related Initiatives in India) a partnership project of the University of Minnesota funded by the Fogarty international, National Institute of Health, USA and HRIDAY (Health Related Information Dissemination among the Youth, Delhi), November 2003-February 2004). Helped the team of epidemiologists to do qualitative research in the field of behavioral interventions.

Consultant to the UNICEF Sponsored project on ‘Orissa Household Food Security’ Project from August- November 1998. Responsibilities involved developing study modules, training of field workers, supervision of field work and analysis

Consultant to the Project on ‘Local Level Initiatives in the Rehabilitation of Common Property Resources’ from February –May 1998. The World Bank, World Wide Fund for Nature and the Ford Foundation jointly sponsored the project and executed by New Concept, Delhi. 

Academic Awards

M.N.Srinivas Memorial Prize for the best article in Social Anthropology published in Indian Journals/books, 2006 by the Indian Sociological Society for the article ‘Local Perceptions of Famine: Study of a village in Orissa’ published in EPW, Feb, 2005
